Spring Semester in SAE

Welcome back to the Seattle Arts Ecology for the Spring!

Please note that there is one new text book--THE LURE OF THE LOCAL by Lucy R. Lippard--which is available at University Bookstore as well as at amazon.com. (Used copies available.)

There is a new course reader which is available at Perfect Copy, at the corner of Broadway and John on Capitol Hill.

We will continue to work with READING SEATTLE: THE CITY IN PROSE.

Please pick up the new text book and course reader asap. Looking forward to seeing you soon!

SAE RULES

"We're breaking all of the rules. Even our own rules. And how do we do that? By leaving plenty of room for X quantities."

Rule 1: Find a place you trust and then try trusting it for awhile.

Rule 2: Be curious. Ask questions. Read everything you can get your hands on.

Rule 3: Pull everything out of your teacher. Pull everything out of your fellow students. Pull everything out of yourself.

Rule 4: Do all the work. Go to all the classes.

Rule 5: Try and try again. There's no win and no fail. There's only do and make.

Rule 6: Don't try to create and analyze at the same time. They're different processes.

Rule 7: Consider everything an experiment.

Rule 8: Be self-disciplined. Hold yourself accountable.

Rule 9: Keep things in balance. Take care of yourself.

Rule 10: Remember to have fun. Enjoy yourself. Enjoy the people around you.

H&S Attendance Policy

Attendance is required for all Humanities and Sciences courses. To pass Integrated Studies, students may not exceed 9 hours of absence. In all other Humanities and Sciences courses, students are permitted three absences before having their grade affected. In all courses, these permitted absences include absence due to personal matters or illness, and absences due to departmental commitments, such as rehearsals, performances, or show installation. In all cases, it is the responsibility of the student to alert his or her instructor of a pending absence and to make arrangements to complete all coursework in a timely manner. To minimize absences, students should take care to register for courses that fit their schedules and that do not conflict with other courses or internships.

NOTE: If students miss class for any reason, they are still responsible for turning in their work on time and for any material or assignments covered during the class meeting.
